Educational Programs Intern (February - June, 2010)
SIFF is seeking interns who are energetic and passionate about film and education to assist with our growing FutureWave youth programs for the upcoming Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF).

FutureWave is a rapidly expanding area of the Festival that offers students of all ages the opportunity to participate in the Festival experience. FutureWave programs offer youth opportunities to explore the art of filmmaking and expose them to unique worldviews in a way only cinema can. FutureWave programs include: School Screenings of Festival films, FutureWave shorts program, SuperFly Filmmaking, Digital Media Classroom, a Professional Development Workshop for teachers, and other ideas brought to the table. SIFF Cinema has expanded our educational possibilities throughout the year for Filmmaker Visits and coordinating School Screenings.

A Festival Education Intern will likely have the opportunity to take charge of the 'Filmmaker Visit To Schools' program, working directly with teachers and filmmakers to find outreach that fits their films. This is a great opportunity for future educators looking for an opportunity to gain experience working with teachers in a variety of districts around Puget Sound while facilitating artistic experiences for students.

Dates and Hours: 15-20 hours a week in the office (increased hours during the May and the three weeks of the festival). February through June 2010.

Skills: We are looking for an energetic self-starter with strong organizational skills, an attention to detail and excellent communication skills. Macintosh experience is helpful, especially in Microsoft Office and FileMaker Pro as well as the ability to utilize the Internet and telephone effectively to find information. Strong candidates will be collaborative team players with an enthusiasm for introducing film to new audiences. An interest in working with young people is key and experience working in or with schools is an added bonus.

Benefits: Interns will have the opportunity to host filmmakers, interact with students and teachers, create curriculum and education descriptions and participate in program development. Interns are considered Staff for the Festival and will have a staff pass and access to other Festival events.

This is a great opportunity to be part of an amazing organization and help pull off the largest film festival in the US. Because this is a small department you will be an active member of the team and will leave with valuable skills and experience. You may even have time to see a film or four!
