DocBrunch with Chipotle burritos
USA | 2013 | 80 Minutes | Graham Meriwether
With free burritos from Chipotle. PCC Farmland Trust presents this eye-opening documentary that takes a pro-farmer look at chicken, hog and cattle production in America, exploring a nationwide local-food movement that is challenging the industrial system.
Special Engagement: All seats $5.00
Beginning with a history of our current industrial system, American Meat unveils the feedlots and confinement operations, not through hidden cameras, but through the eyes of the farmers who live and work there. Offering an alternative, the film then visits Polyface Farms, where Joel Salatin has developed an alternative agricultural model based on rotational grazing and local distribution¬. After being featured in Michael Pollan's ground-breaking book "The Ominvore's Dilemma", Salatin became a spokesperson for this method, and has inspired a nation-wide movement of farmers who have changed their life to start grass-based farms, and change the direction of American agriculture.
After the film, special guest Garth Daley Highsmith of Dropstone Farms will be speaking about his experiences on a new farm raising grass-fed and pastured meats.
Presented by PCC Farmland Trust's On The Farm education program.
On the Farm gives community members a unique opportunity to throw on their boots and head out to a working farm for an insider's look at sustainable farming practices and farmland preservation across Washington State. Each event highlights a topic related to sustainable farming, takes place on a conserved farm, and gives participants the chance to make connections with local food and farmers! On the Farm is supported by Chipotle.
