Hong Kong action diva Maggie Cheung plays herself in this brilliant, spiky satire of the movie industry. A temperamental New Wave director (Jean-Pierre Léaud) casts Cheung in his remake of a silent classic, and, unable to speak a word of French, Cheung finds herself dealing with a production beset with problems. A super-cool comic gem, Irma Vep giddily immerses the viewer into the heady desperation of moviemaking.
