Dirty Martini and the New Burlesque
This special evening will be hosted by The Swedish Housewife, and will feature a live performance by the real Dirty Martini! Director Gary Beeber will also be on hand for a question and answer session with the audience.
Dirty Martini and the New Burlesque explores the outrageous world of the performers who created the New Burlesque scene in New York City: Miss Dirty Martini and her friends Julie Atlas Muz, World-Famous *BOB*, Bambi the Mermaid, Tigger!, Scotty the Blue Bunny, and many other cult stars. Fusing performance art, modern dance, and political satire, with a healthy dose of sex-positive feminism, the New Burlesque is the new punk rock!

International burlesque sensation, Miss Dirty Martini, is one of the most recognized names in new burlesque. In 1997, she traveled to Sarajevo, to perform her show-stopping fan dance to a shell shocked public shortly after the peace accord was signed and the Serbian siege had ended. Since that time, she has declared herself the first fan dancer to perform in post-war Bosnia. In her native Manhattan, Miss Martini has delighted audiences with her Fan Dance, Balloon Striptease, Dance of Several Veils, Shadow Strip and other classic burlesque revivals in such venues as The Slipper Room, Bombshell, Le Scandal, The Supper Club, Joe’s Pub, Lotus, and at Carnegie Hall.

Dirty Martini and the New Burlesque, Mar 29, 2010
By kendrawb
“Explores not only the resurgence of the New Burlesque scene in the US, but puts a wonderfully human face on the performers, their motivations, and the special "thing" that makes them love themselves, their art, and each other. Wonderful film and we had the special treat of having Dirty Martini live”
