Killer's Kiss
In Kubrick’s first acknowledged feature Killer’s Kiss, he decided to make a ‘showcase’ film to demonstrate his talents. He put together a list of scenes that included a boxing match, a murder, a chase across rooftops, a showdown in a mannequin factory, a ballet sequence and a dream sequence of a boxer walking through Time Square. He then spent a week writing a script that tied these scenes together and voilá: Killer’s Kiss. It’s about a down-on-his-luck boxer who saves a nightclub dancer from her boss and is thereupon marked for death; the result certainly showed Kubrick had talent.
