You just put your pickle on everybody's plate, college boy, and leave the hard stuff to me.
Stuck at a Catskills tourist spot circa 1963 with two neglectful parents (Tony Award winners Jerry Orbach and Kelly Bishop) and nothing else to do, 17-year-old Frances “Baby” Houseman (Jennifer Grey) stumbles upon the resort staff participating in an after-hours session of dirty dancing. Confused, intrigued, and titillated, Baby wants more, catching the eye of the resort’s dance instructor Johnny (Patrick Swayze), who begins giving her private lessons. On their emotionally perilous journey to the climactic talent show finale, Baby blossoms into a young woman, Johnny learns a valuable lesson about selflessness, and everybody gets “(I’ve Had) the Time of My Life” stuck in their heads until the end of time. Try to put Baby in a corner. We dare you. - Marcus Gorman
