Five Easy Pieces
November 9 - 10, 2013
USA | 1970 | 96 minutes | Bob Rafaelson
Jack Nicholson plays an oil worker who returns to his upper-class family when he discovers his father is dying. With the late, great Karen Black in her definitive role.
In his first starring role after Easy Rider, Nicholson plays Bobby Dupea, an oil rig worker who spends his nights bowling and listening to his girl (Karen Black) sing "Stand By Your Man" just like Tammy Wynette. When Bobby finds out that his father, a classical musician who trained his son to be the same, is on his deathbed he travels back to Washington State to confront the life he left behind.
One of the defining works of 70s cinema, director Bob Rafaelson captured the simmering frustration and alienation of the period, and the film received Oscar® nominations for Best Picture, Original Screenplay, Actor (Nicholson) and Supporting Actress (Black).
