Fritz Lang's M

September 20 - 22, 2013

Germany | 1931 | 117 Minutes | Fritz Lang

Fritz Lang's classic story of a child murderer (Peter Lorre) brought to justice returns in a stunning new 2k DCP restoration featuring footage missing from previous versions.

Hans Beckert (Lorre), is a recently released asylum inmate with a compulsion to kill little girls. In an attempt to capture the killer, the police apply pressure to Berlin’s criminal underworld, who use a network of prostitutes, pickpockets and thugs, to close in on Beckert and put him on trial in their own court. The cinema’s first serial killer story, Lang’s first sound film, and Peter Lorre’s first famous film role is also innovative in its use of sound and image juxtapositions.
