October 4 - November 26, 2013
USA | 2013 | 90 Minutes | Alfonso Cuarón
Director Alfonso Cuarón (Y Tu Mamá También, Children of Men) returns with a heart-pounding thriller that pulls you into the infinite and unforgiving realm of deep space.
Sandra Bullock stars as a medical engineer on her first shuttle mission with a veteran astronaut (George Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving the astronauts stranded, completely alone, and fighting for survival.
Based on a concept by his son (who is also co-screenwriter), it took Cuarón nearly five years to develop the story and devise the technology and shooting style to seamlessly and realistically create the feel of deep space. The result is one of the most extraordinary, thrilling, and critically acclaimed films of the year.
"What's astonishing about the film is its hypnotic seamlessness - the way that the director, Alfonso Cuarón, using special effects (and 3D) with a nearly poetic simplicity and command, places us right up there in space along with the people on screen." - Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly
"This isn't just the best-looking film of the year, it's one of the most awe-inspiring achievements in the history of special-effects cinema." - Tom Huddleston, Time Out
"If the film past is dead, Gravity shows us the glory of cinema's future. It thrills on so many levels. And because Cuarón is a movie visionary of the highest order, you truly can't beat the view." - Richard Corliss, TIME Magazine
