Halloween III: The Season of the Witch

October 22, 2013

USA | 1982 | 96 Mintues | Tommy Lee Wallace

It's almost time, kids. The clock is ticking. Be in front of your TV sets for the Horrorthon, followed by the Big Giveaway. Don't miss it. And don't forget to wear your masks.

We all wear masks on Halloween, hoping that for one night each year we can hide our frail human mortality underneath terrifying images of nightmares and death. But what if those masks are more than just sinister facsimiles and the company manufacturing them had ulterior motives? Following a trail of gruesome deaths in the week leading up to Halloween, Dr. Dan Challis (Tom Atkins from Night of the Creeps and Escape from New York) stumbles upon such a plot, and his investigation leads him right to the Silver Shamrock Novelties factory, who may very well be dabbling in some good ol' witchcraft. Trading out the slasher movie tropes John Carpenter perfected 1978's Halloween for a supernatural bent, this is the only film in the franchise to not feature disturbed mental patient Michael Myers. His absence meant box office failure, but the terrifying idea of deadly pumpkin masks made for a home video classic. - Marcus Gorman
