The Last Picture Show
November 10 - 11, 2013
USA | 1971 | 127 minutes | Peter Bogdanovich
Nominated for eight Academy Awards®, this landmark film follows a group of teenagers coming of age in a West Texas town in the 1950s.
Peter Bogdanovich emerged as a great American director with this sensitive elegy for a dying nowheresville town, adapted from the novel by Larry McMurry and filmed in luminous black and white.
The story follows three high school friends–enigmatic Sonny (Timothy Bottoms), wayward jock Duane (Jeff Bridges), and desperate-to-be-adored rich girl Jacy (Cybil Shepherd)–as they interact with other town residents including with an aging, lonely housewife (Cloris Leachman), and a grizzled cinema owner (Ben Johnson). Leachman and Johnson both won Oscars® for their haunting performances.
