Born to a bourgeois family in the 1760s, Suzanne (a stunning Pauline Etienne) is a beautiful young girl with a natural talent for music who is at a loss when her parents send her off to a convent. After the Mother Superior who brings Suzanne comfort and solace dies, she is tortured by the sadistic and cruel Sister Christine (Louise Bourgoin). Finally escaping to another convent, Suzanne discovers another nasty nun (Isabelle Huppert), who turns out to be all-too-loving.
