Philomena Lee (Judi Dench) has kept a secret for most of her life. As a teenager in a strict Irish Catholic community, she conceived a child out of wedlock and then, in following church doctrine, was forced to give her son up for adaption. Now, Philomena wants to find out what happened to her long-lost son, and enlists the help of Martin Sixsmith (Steve Coogan), a politician and former BBC reporter looking for a new story. Directed by Stephen Frears (The Queen), this affecting story of family, loss, and discovery is based on a true story.
