Maelstrom International Fantastic Film Festival

Presented by MIFFF, the Maelstrom International Fantastic Film Festival is the premier Pacific Northwest weekend long event devoted towards independent and international genre film making. The event was created to offer exposure to films that traditionally are overlooked by the festival circuit from genres including animation, fantasy, horror, and science fiction. The festival will feature an amazing selection of fantastic cinema from around the globe – with the possibility of artists presenting the works themselves. Films

  • Animation/Fantasy Shorts

    Featuring a fun and entertaining collection of original shorts. Battling toddlers, killer light, cartoons, stop-motion, live action, this shorts block has it all! A great way to start Saturday at MIFFF.

  • Fantasy Shorts

    This is a harder edge collection of shorts. Violent, sexual, depressing, uplifting – you will find a deeply eclectic series of shorts in this collection. Filmmakers from the The Delivery and Bathtub to Happiness will be in attendance.

  • Horror Shorts

    Dark, scary, creepy and even funny this collection of horror shorts is here to take you away to a place you may not want to go. But you don’t want to stop watching, it’s worth the bumps in the road. Filmmakers from Thirsty will be in attendance.

  • Local SciFi Double Feature

    MIFFF is proud to premiere two science fiction films shot in the Seattle area - Timetravel_0 and The Ends of the Earth.

  • Pig Hunt

    A fun and very entertaining film with hillbillies, hippies, guns, and a giant pig! Could be the greatest way to spend a Saturday night ever. Plays with one of the funniest shorts ever made.

  • The Revenant

    Maelstrom International Fantastic Film Festival Opening Night
    A fun and funny way to start out the weekend at MIFFF. This film won the Silver Vision Award for best independent film at the Toronto After Dark Festival. Includes a short film about death that will make you double check your babysitter.

  • Science Fiction Shorts

    Sci-Fi shorts featuring amazing worlds, alternate realties, and steam punk! You love science fiction? This is the program for you. Contains what might be the funniest short about con-goers ever, and it is not insulting.

  • Strigoi

    The Gold Medal Winner of the Vision Award for best independent film at the Toronto After Dark Festival. The director/writer and the producer will be at the screening of this fantastic film. Plays with the short film Virtual Dating.

  • Until the Light Takes Us

    A feature length documentary, chronicling the history of Norwegian black metal - a subculture that is infamous for a series of murders and church arsons as well as its unique aesthetics.
