June 27 - August 28, 2014
South Korea | 2013 | 125 Minutes | Bong Joon-ho
Final week! Ends Thurs Aug 28 | An international cast comes together for director Bong Joon-ho's (The Host) stunning dystopian thriller about humanity's few survivors, who are trapped aboard a high-speed supertrain where the divide between the rich and poor is becoming ever more volatile.
Based on the graphic novel of the same name, Snowpiercer takes place in a bleak future where a failed experiment to stop global warming has turned the world into a frozen, uninhabitable wasteland. Humanity's only survivors are left on board a perpetual-motion train built by an eccentric, reclusive billionaire. The upper class live in the forward train cars in luxury, protected by armed soldiers, while those with second-class tickets languish in squalor at the back. But a band of rebels is brewing, and with the help of a wise elder (John Hurt), their leader (Chris Evans) has discovered a secret that could completely shift the balance of power.
"An enormously ambitious, visually stunning and richly satisfying futuristic epic. Snowpiercer has been brought to the screen with the kind of solid narrative craftsmanship, carefully drawn characters and — above all — respect for the audience's intelligence rarely encountered in high-concept genre cinema." -- Scott Foundas, Variety
"A visionary, thrilling work...a crystallization of Bong's status as one of our most exciting filmmakers." -- Oliver Lyttelton, The Playlist
