Stop Making Sense
August 1 - 14, 2014
Run extended through August 14. The Talking Heads' essential concert film, directed by Jonathan Demme, returns in a special 30th Anniversary re-release. From David Byrne announcing "I’ve got a tape I want to play" before launching into a cassette-and-acoustic-guitar version of "Psycho Killer," to the triumphant, gospel-tinged finale of "Take Me To The River," you won’t want to miss a beat.
Clinton, our SIFF Cinema Programmer, had this to say about the movie in last year's Stranger Regrets issue:
"Even though I have programmed the movie in cinemas for years, 2013 was my first time finally sitting down to watch the Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense. I doubted it could be as groundbreaking as I had been told, thought David Byrne wasn't a "real" rock star, and didn't fully appreciate the music of the Talking Heads. I regret these errors, and wish I had watched it decades ago."
For this anniversary screening he adds, "This is truly a mind-altering concert film. So, so good! Don't miss it on the big screen."
