From the director of Precious comes the story of a man that parallels the story of a nation. Forest Whitaker leads an all-star cast as a White House butler who served eight American presidents over three decades.
White House butler Cecil Gaines (Forest Whitaker) came from a life of poverty and strife into a world where he was given a front row seat for some the most dramatic changes in US history. As he witnesses history in the making - from the civil rights movement to Vietnam and beyond - he discovers how these changes affect his life and family.
