The Wall

Die Wand

August 16 - 22, 2013

Austria | 2012 | 108 minutes | Julian Roman Pölsler

In a tour-de-force performance, Martina Gedeck (The Lives of Others) stars as a woman vacationing in the Austrian mountains who suddenly finds herself trapped when an invisible, unyielding wall inexplicably materializes.

Accompanied by her loyal dog Lynx, the woman in the woods (we never learn her name) becomes immersed in a world untouched by civilization and ruled by the laws of nature. As she grapples with her bizarre circumstances, determined to survive and record her thoughts, she begins an inward journey. Based on Marlen Haushofer’s eponymous classic novel, this mesmerizing adventure film features stunningly gorgeous cinematography to tell a story of rediscovering personality and strength among the sometimes-harsh essentialities of nature.

Absorbing...a one-woman study of physical and mental survival!” - Neil Genzlinger, The New York Times

"Riveting and emotionally involving from start to finish. Intensely cinematic. Gedeck's performance is phenomenal." - Jonathan Romney, Screen International
