Having suffered her whole life at the hands of her abusive parents, 19-year-old deaf-mute Ana makes a stand, hoping to steal her siblings away in a bid for freedom. Hailed as Venezula's answer to the smash-hit, tear-your-heart-out Precious, brothers Andres and Luis Rodriguez draw on their experiences as social workers to craft this tale of quiet desperation.

19-year-old Ana is deaf and has spent most of her life slaving away at a sewing machine, working with her mother in a textile factory to help support their family. Ashamed of Ana's disability, her mother monitors her every move, refusing to even allow her to learn sign language. At home, Ana is forced to care for her younger brother and sister while her mother dotes on her new husband instead. Trapped in a world that either can't or won't hear her, Ana suffers her parents' abuses and indignities stoically, taking solace in the affectionate relationship she has with her siblings. But when the abuse begins to her brother and sister, she decides to save them, hoping to steal them away in a desperate bid for freedom. Before making films, Luis and Andrés Rodríguez worked as social workers with abandoned children, providing the directors with an intimate knowledge of the realities of the bottom rung of Venezuela's social ladder and the often inexpressible dreams of the children who dwell there. They wed this understanding with a inventive visual style and Vanessa Di Quattro's sophisticated performance as Ana to create an arresting tale of a young woman's courageous quest to control her own life.
