For the first time in years, Jack is getting his life back onto the straight and narrow. He decides to stop his brazen womanizing, rededicate himself to his live-in girlfriend and child, and cut back on his eager and enthusiastic drug use. Unfortunately for Jack, his best friend Glen has lousy timing. While carrying 2.5 kilos of cocaine concealed in the trunk, Glen crashes his car into a moose in the middle of the night on the Swedish border, landing him in the hospital, thus unable to make the scheduled delivery to the local drug cartel. In order to save Glen from the cartel's enforcers, Jack enlists his colleagues Rasmussen and Robin to help him on a desperate errand: get the drugs out of police custody and complete the transaction himself while hopefully keeping his friends and family alive. As he is about to find out, though, when you think you have hit rock bottom, it can always get worse. In his feature film debut, director Øystein Karlsen blends equal parts Jo Nesbø crime thriller and Coen Brothers absurdism to create a black comedy that is darker than a Scandinavian winter's night.
Øystein Karlsen is a Norwegian writer and director, known for the TV series DAG. His sense of absurd and dark humor made this series a success, prompting 20th Century Fox to purchase the remake rights for North America. Fuck Up is his first feature film.
