Director Roy Chow teams up with two of Hong Kong's most exciting action stars for Nightfall—a gritty, brutal story of love, hate, and vengeance. When the burned body of Hong Kong's most renowned opera singer is found floating in the ocean, Inspector Lam (Simon Yam) is assigned to solve the case. He quickly establishes Wong Yuen-yeung (Nick Cheung), a newly released convict with a brutal past and possible ties to the family, as the chief suspect. However, Wong proves to be an ever-resourceful and elusive quarry. But what Lam surmises as a clear-cut case of revenge gets murkier the deeper he investigates. What connects Wong to Han and his beautiful daughter Zoe? Who is the victim and who is the real killer? Buried beneath 20 years of lies, a shocking secret threatens to pull down Lam's entire case. Part Dante Lam and part James M. Cain, Nightfall is a slick noirish thriller in which gut-wrenching violence, corrupted innocence, obsession, and voyeurism provide the grist for the film's grisly mill.
Roy Chow is a Taiwanese filmmaker. He received a nomination for Best New Director at the Hong Kong Film Awards for his first feature, Murderer (2009).
