Stuck in Love
In this tour-de-force comedy of manners, the clannish Borgens deny that mom—the Anna Karenina of the 'burbs—has abandoned them and cope in all the wrong ways instead of dealing honestly with the inevitable losses that life throws at us.

First-time director Josh Boone's Stuck in Love dramatizes the emotional and physical fallout of divorce in a sharply observed comedy of manners. Celebrated novelist Bill Borgens (a terrific Greg Kinnear) can't accept that his sweet-tempered wife Erica (Jennifer Connelly) has left him for a younger man. Three years later, he is still obsessed with her and her new husband, despite being pushed back into the dating pool by neighbor-with-benefits Tricia (Kristen Bell). Kinnear here dishes up a man-child, whose arrested development stifles those closest to him. Daughter Sam (Lily Collins), a phenom, publishes her first novel at nineteen to some fanfare and dad's chagrin: they share DNA but not books. When not garnering awards, she conquers men with a mannered insouciance. Unlike her oddball brother, Rusty (Nat Wolff with plenty of brio), Sam embraces the Zeitgeist, a toss-away smorgasbord with a Lady Gaga-cum-Jersey Shore ethos. Despite her slick, enameled life, she falls hard for Lou, a chivalrous if mild throwback. Rusty vexes both Sam and his father as he hasn't their sexual verve. Bill cautions Rusty that a writer is an amalgam of experiences. An emboldened Rusty pursues "it" girl, Kate (Liana Liberato), but we wonder whether she is worth the bother of this single-minded pursuit. With everyone coupled-up, Erica attempts to reconcile with Sam. Ersatz drama ensues with a revelatory ending that's sure to satisfy.
American Josh Boone makes his directorial debut with Stuck in Love. He is currently attached to helm the film adaptation of John Green’s best-selling novel The Fault in Our Stars.
