Au Bonheur des dames

Denise moves to Paris where her uncle’s struggling store is threatened by the glamorous “Au Bonheur des dames” department store across the street. Ironically, this is the only place she is able to find work. Based on the novel by Emile Zola, this is a fascinating glimpse of a past economic era. A rare archival print from the Cinémathèque Française, Paris.

Silent, with a new score created for SIFF performed live by Joanna Seaton, voice; Donald Sosin, keyboards; and Nick Sosin, percussion. Seaton and the Sosins have performed all over the country, most recently at the TriBeCa Film Festival, New York's Museum of Modern Art, and Lincoln Center's Great Performers series. They are among the finest creators of silent film music working today, and have many DVDs to their credit. More info at www.silent-film-music.com. SIFF is pleased to once again host master silent film musician Donald Sosin at this year's festival.
