My Effortless Brilliance

Lynn Shelton’s funny and moving ode to the complexities of broken friendships finds former buddies Eric and Dylan spending an uncomfortable weekend together in a cabin in eastern Washington. They work through their differences by splitting logs, matching wits, and eventually embarking on a booze-fueled search for danger in the woods.

Maybe a little more effort needed, May 13, 2008

“Sometimes what's good enough to make your friends laugh isn't funny enough to sustain a feature-length movie. This is one of those times.”

“An authentic and refreshing look at the true dynamics of male relationships, few films have been able to portray so realistically. The amazingly real and intimate performances, and every subtle emotion that is portrayed in both the dialogue and action come across as if the audience were a part of” … full review

As it sits, the title of this film can only be taken as” … full review

Beautifully-crafted tension and surreal humor make a great film, May 20, 2008

    By Christin Clatterbuck

“Lynn Shelton's "My Effortless Brilliance" is a study in the relationship between cocky, fussy, thoroughly-city-mouse author Eric (Sean Nelson) and his ex-best-friend, the tersely powerful journalist and wood-chopper Dylan (Basil Harris). Dylan, fed up with Eric's self-involved antics, dumps him and” … full review

Go see this film, or you're an a$$hole., May 20, 2008

    By Reka Epsdet

“This is thoughtful, subtle, patient and original American filmmaking. You should be so lucky to witness 80 minutes of well crafted film making that so deftly navigates the keenly improvised performances without abandoning conventional storytelling and (gorgeous) cinematography. I'm not sure” … full review
