Ginger and Rosa
March 22 - April 10, 2013
United Kingdom | 2012 | 89 Minutes | Sally Potter
From director Sally Potter (Orlando) comes this coming-of-age story that follows two BFF's growing up in Great Britain at the start of the 1960s. Featuring Elle Fanning in a mesmerizing, breakout performance.
Ginger and Rosa are inseparable. They skip school together; talk about love, religion, and politics; and dream of a life bigger than that of their parents' generation. Sensitive Ginger (Elle Fanning) is drawn to poetry and protest, while wild Rosa (Alice Englert) smokes cigarettes and kisses boys. As the Cuban Missile Crisis escalates - and it seems the world itself may come to an end - a surprising betrayal shatters their lifelong friendship. If Ginger can help save the world from extinction, perhaps she too will survive this moment of personal devastation.
A fantastic cast shares the screen as the adults in Ginger and Rosa's lives, including Christina Hendricks and Alessandro Nivola as Ginger's parents, Jodhi May as Rosa's single mom, and Timothy Spall, Oliver Platt, and Annette Bening as inviting bohemian family friends.
"Elle Fanning is simply extraordinary and exhibits an amazing range as a kid overwhelmed by the idea that humanity could be wiped out tomorrow." - Todd McCarthy, Hollywood Reporter
"A viscerally charged movie that foregrounds surface tensions and gripping performances, Ginger & Rosa is the filmmaker's most accessible and technically surefooted work to date." - Eric Kohn, IndieWire
