More Than $38,000 Raised at the SIFF Movie Marathon!
On April 4-5, SIFF and the FOOL Serious presented the SIFF 24-Hour Movie Marathon, a marathon to raise funds for the SIFF Film Center. This marathon wasn't any ordinary marathon in which participants run or walk, but rather a movie marathon where participants did what they love most - sit in the dark and watch films!
How did it work?
It was easy! First, individuals set a personal goal. Then, they started asking their family, friends, and co-workers to sponsor their efforts. Gifts of $10, $25, $50, $100 added up fast! Plus, there were great incentives offered, including tickets to SIFF Cinema and the Festival. It was a valiant success and everyone who participated help raise nearly $40,000 for the SIFF Film Center.
Why does SIFF need a Film Center?
The SIFF Film Center will allow us to extend our reach into the community and serve more people. The SIFF Film Center would include an intimate 100-seat theater where SIFF can hold public screenings of exceptional films that would not otherwise be seen in Seattle; a venue for lectures and SIFF educational programs, including a classroom/screening room creating great opportunities for the public to hear from filmmakers themselves and for emerging artists to practice and hone their skills with experienced veterans; a much-needed reference library that will hold archives of scripts and films; and office space to accommodate SIFF's growing needs. The SIFF Film Center will ensure our future sustainability and growth, and will allow us to fully achieve our mission to create experiences that bring people together to discover extraordinary films from around the world.
