Over the course of one night, strangers Momo and Hugo take an impromptu, life-changing trip through their fears and failings, falling in love and learning to let go in this exuberant debut feature, winner of the Crystal Bear Award at the 2023 Berlinale.
They met at a rural bus stop at night, two twentysomething strangers sharing a lighter and awkward conversation. He, deadly serious in his black suit, bowl haircut, and holding a small, open-armed cactus named Adolfo. She, in aviator goggles and leather jacket, every inch a skateboarding Amelia Earhart en route to a friend's costume party. But as introverted Hugo (Daniel García Treviño) takes up gregarious Momo (Rocío de la Mañana) on her invitation to join her, the pair soon feel the pull of an unexpected and unspoken connection growing between them. They make their way deep into the night and through a series of laundromats, taco joints, and biker bars, all as Momo struggles to shake herself free from addiction and Hugo grapples with the unexpected death of his troubled father. The two broken souls unexpectedly find themselves connecting in their grief, discovering one another and themselves, as well as the bittersweet agony of letting go, in this youthful and exuberant debut feature written and directed by Sofia Auza, winner of the Generation 14plus Crystal Bear Award at the 2023 Berlinale.
