Sweden | 2018 | 101 minutes | Filip Hammar, Fredrik Wikingsson

Based on a true story, the directorial debut of popular Swedish personalities Filip and Fredrik is an outrageous, unconventional comedy set in the 1980s about an eccentric resident of "the most boring town in Sweden" who decides to put his sleepy hamlet on the map by assembling the world's longest layer cake.

"The Cake General is a warm, perhaps endearing tribute to people who do things; this hilarious story that stems from reality is also about everything that simmers below the surface in a small Swedish city. " Jorn Rossing Jensen - Cineuropa

In 1984, the small town of Koping is named the most boring town in Sweden by a popular television show, Rekord-Magazinet. Resident Hasse Pettersson (Mikael Perssbrandt, The Hobbit) refuses to allow his new home to become the subject of a national joke and sets off on a mission to drum up some attention-grabbing excitement. A man who struggles with his drinking habits and financial status, Hasse decides to make the world's largest sandwich cake. By pursuing this goal and realizing his potential for success by any means, Hasse is able to attain a much-needed sense of purpose. A tale of personal fulfillment and resilience, Cake General also stands as the story of a community banding together to prove that no group of people should be cast aside or titled as irrelevant. Former television comedy hosts and debut directors Filip Hammar and Fredrik Wikingsson based the film on an outrageous true story. Their work serves as a loving tribute to people who live outside the boundaries of what is considered conventional and set out to relentlessly achieve a meaningful goal, no matter how absurd it may seem.
