Karen Gillan (“Doctor Who”) and Aaron Paul (“Breaking Bad”) star in provocateur Riley Stearns’ latest about a woman who, having miraculously recovered from a severe illness, must defeat the clone she had commissioned to take her place.
“It’s a strange and memorable film with a unique voice and a unique perspective, and that alone makes it worth seeking out.” – Tasha Robinson (Polygon)
When Sarah (Karen Gillan of “Doctor Who” and Guardians of the Galaxy) finds out she’s dying of an incurable disease, she opts for new technology called “Replacement” to spare her loved ones the pain of her death: a clone, just like her in every way, or perhaps better. She must train her double to behave like her so she’s ready to take over her life, but when Sarah no longer has a use for her lookalike, getting rid of her is a little more complicated. Director Riley Stearns (The Art of Self-Defense, Faults) returns to the Festival with his usual bone-dry deadpan in this tragically humorous speculative fiction. On a mission to be the last Sarah standing, she teams up with Trent, played by a manic Aaron Paul (Emmy winner for “Breaking Bad”), a dojo trainer ready to prepare her for the battle of her life.
