Seeking the freedom to reinvent their lives around days filled with live music, alternative culture, and their own romantic relationship, music obsessives Jim Nash and Dannie Flesher moved their small indie record shop Wax Trax! Records from sleepy Denver, Colorado to Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood in 1978. Their passion for discovering groundbreaking artists combined with their embrace of a community of punks, artists, weirdos, and drag queens, quickly made Wax Trax! an internationally recognized home base for the counterculture. After helping to build rabid fanbases for underground musicians ranging from Bauhaus to Divine, Jim and Dannie discovered a musical raconteur named Al Jourgensen, whose experimental dance demos they decided to release under the name Ministry. Thus began Wax Trax! the label, whose name quickly became synonymous with a piledriving new electronic music genre known as Industrial thanks to their groundbreaking roster of artists that included Front 242, My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult, Meat Beat Manifesto, Underworld, Revolting Cocks, and KMFDM. Industrial Accident tells this exhilarating and cacophonous story through a mountain of archival photos, concert fliers, and video footage, plus reflections from the pioneering artists, former employees, and the musicians touched by the world of Wax Trax!, including Trent Reznor, Steve Albini, Jello Biafra, Ian MacKaye, and Dave Grohl.
