The Last Animals

USA | 2017 | 92 minutes | Kate Brooks

With the value of their tusks and horns skyrocketing in recent years, African elephants and rhinoceroses have been slaughtered at unprecedented levels. Photojournalist Kate Brooks digs deep in this scathing expose of the ivory trade revealing an animal-rights travesty as infuriating and eye-opening as that of Blackfish.

Director Kate Brooks, who has spent the past two decades photographing and filming war and human-rights issues, takes her experience to a new level with this incredibly moving wildlife documentary. Over the past 10 years the illegal wildlife trade has become the fourth largest transnational crime. Rhino horn has a higher market value than cocaine and over 150,000 elephants have been killed for their ivory. The documentary follows a team of conservationists, scientists, and activists as they respond to the industrial scale slaughter that has plagued Africa and is leading to elephants and rhinos to fade into extinction. From Africa's front lines to behind the scenes of Asian markets to United States policy, The Last Animals is about those who are trying to make a difference and save the last of the animals.
