Sexual awakenings have never been so bloody or horny as this aesthetically pleasing queer horror romance, My Animal. With its killer tunes and tons of style, this film will be a whole new generation's favorite werewolf flick. I'm calling it now! Our lycanthrope, Heather (Bobbi Salvör Menuez, Nocturnal Animals) is just a simple teenage girl who has a crush on her best friend/new girl-in-town, Jonny (Amandla Stenberg, Bodies Bodies Bodies). There's also small-town mindedness, toxic parental units, and that pesky full moon thing to deal with. As rebellion and desire push Heather to her breaking point, will young love survive her family's curse? Being a gay teenager in love can sure be transformative, especially when sex and danger go hand in hand. Speaking of the devil with two backs, the chemistry between the two leads gives this film an agency of its own that is wickedly soaked in red and full of synthy beats of darkwave. This genre-bending creature feature is a must-watch for fans of folk horror, unconventional love stories, and ladies pro wrestling.
