The House of the Snails

April 21 - 23, 2022

A writer seeking peace and quiet to work visits a secluded mountain town and falls in love while discovering the horrific secret behind the inhabitants’ eccentricities. His first clue is an eerie howling in the night…

A beautifully dark folk horror tale that takes place in a remote town in southern Spain. With elements of fantasy and mystery, the story unfolds like a classic “Twilight Zone” episode in which a stranger finds himself in an unusual village. The stranger here is Antonio (Javier Rey, “Fariña”), a writer seeking a quiet place to work on his novel. Although most of the townspeople are unusual and distrustful of outsiders, Antonio develops a friendship with real-estate agent Berta (Paz Vega, Sex and Lucía). Legend has it that the town is cursed, and Antonio’s experience becomes more unsettling each day as he learns about the legend of the Vimero, a mythical creature who feeds on the innocent of the town. The sound design lends to the sense of impending doom and isolation, with nighttime howls coming from the woods. In the process of writing his novel, Antonio must question where reality ends and fiction begins. The House of the Snails is an intriguing folk horror narrative with a twist, and more than a few surprises will keep the viewer guessing until the very end.
