BAFTAs
The BAFTA award nominations have been announced and The Favourite dominates with 12 nominations!
The BAFTA nominations are out, and history was made by both Bradley Cooper (A Star is Born) and Alfonso Cuaron (Roma) with five nominations in five different categories, with Cuaron earning his fifth nomination in the nod for Foreign Language Film. Director. Spike Lee received his first BAFTA ever nomination for BlacKkKlansman.
But the big news was the domination of Yorgos Lanthimos's The Favourite with 12 total nominations, including Best Picture, Leading Actress (Golden Globe winning Olivia Colman), Supporting Actress (for both Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz), and Best Screenplay, a feat very likely to also be repeated with the Oscar® nominations.
SIFF 2018 film Beast was nominated for Outstanding British Film as well as Outstanding Debut by a British Director, and Cinema Italian Style 2018 film Dogman makes its first major appearance on the Foreign Language Film list.
The nomination list looks very familiar to the awards watchers, with few real surprises, instead, further cementing the road to the Oscars® for many of these nominees. The awards will be handed out February 10 in London.
