In a rural Texas town, unhappy housewife Abby (Frances McDormand, in a star-making role) is cheating on her saloonkeeper husband Marty (Dan Hedaya). Furious over the betrayal, Marty hires unscrupulous private detective Visser (M. Emmet Walsh) to kill the illicit lovers. But Visser has other, more lucrative plans of his own. A calculating round of double and triple crosses build to a bloodcurdling, surprise-filled climax in this evil-minded masterpiece from the then-unknown filmmaking team known as the Coen Brothers.
