Meant to be seen on the big screen, Ridley Scott brings to life Philip K Dick's dystopian, neo-noir, sci-fi tale of genetically created replicants and the man who hunts them. This 2007 Final Cut version restores the director's full artistic vision.
Based on sci-fi master Philip K. Dick's novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?", Blade Runner is a haunting look at reality, memory and mortality set against the dystopian city of Los Angeles in the year 2019 (only five years away!). Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) is a former "blade runner" called out of retirement to hunt and kill four replicants–genetically altered humans with superior strength and intellects–who have returned to earth on a killing spree, determined to meet their maker.
Deckard's investigation leads across the glittering heights and disintegrating depths of Ridley Scott's fantastically imagined metropolis; one filled with pyramids, enormous neon billboards, and spinner cars amid unimaginable overcrowding and a constant deluge of acid rain. Special effects master Douglas Trumbull (2001: A Space Odyssey) used a combination of miniatures, animation, drawings, and optical effects to help create this spectacular visual sci-fi treat, which stunned audiences in the 1980s and continues to astound today.
