Belgium | 2014 | 95 minutes | Jean-Pierre Dardenne, Luc Dardenne

January 30 - March 12, 2015

Ends Thu Mar 12 | Marion Cotillard stars in this masterfully humanist film from the Dardenne brothers which follows a working-class mother who loses her job, but is given a fighting chance to get it back over the course of a single weekend.

Sandra (Cotillard) has just been released from the hospital to find that she no longer has a job. According to management, the only way Sandra can hope to regain her position at the factory is to convince her co-workers to sacrifice their much-needed yearly bonuses. Now, over the course of one weekend, Sandra must confront each co-worker individually in order to win a majority of their votes before time runs out.

Two-time winners of the Palme D'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, Belgian filmmakers Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne (The Kid with a Bike) have crafted an extremely relevant social parable that is also a powerful statement on community solidarity, once again delivering a film that is simple on the surface but alive with both compassion and wisdom.

"Cotillard's performance is as fine a piece of screen acting as you will ever see. [She] moves past naturalism into something impossible to doubt and hard to describe. Sandra is an ordinary person in mundane circumstances, but her story, plainly and deliberately told, is suspenseful, sobering and, in the original, fear-of-God sense of the word, tremendous." -- A.O. Scott, New York Times

"Two Days, One Night is a small miracle of a movie, a drama so purely humane that it makes most attempts at audience uplift look crass and calculated by comparison." -- A.A. Dowd, AV Club

"Cotillard is magnificent, her luminous eyes reflecting a soul in crisis. The Dardenne brothers have created a film for its time, bristling with peril and alive to every flicker of human decency." -- Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

"A slice of pressurized middle-class life ... so real, it feels a bit like a documentary." -- Bob Mondello, NPR
