Maps to the Stars
February 27 - March 12, 2015
Ends Thurs Mar 12 | From director David Cronenberg comes this modern Hollywood gothic, a darkly comic peek into the heart of a Hollywood family's need for fame and validation. With Julianne Moore, Mia Wasikowska, John Cusack, and Robert Pattinson.
The Weiss family are an archetypical Hollywood dynasty: Dr Stafford Weiss (John Cusack) is a celebrity psychotherapist, and his wife Cristina (Olivia Williams) is the overbearing mom-ager of their thirteen-year old son, already a fresh graduate of rehab at age 13. Then there is their estranged daughter Agatha (Mia Wasikowska), recently released from a psychiatric hospital and now working as personal assistant to unraveling actress Havana Segrand (Julianne Moore, in Cannes Palme d'Or winning performance), whose dead mother is beginning to haunt her.
Based on an original script by novelist Bruce Wagner ("I’m Losing You"), David Cronenberg's Maps to the Stars is an abrasive and funny dark comedy whose top-notch cast "take delight in ripping to shreds the folly and hubris of the vacant Hollywood lifestyle." (Indiewire)
"Hilariously funny and, dare I say it, yes, pernicious. I love this film more than I love my own mustache." - John Waters
"A huge, almost sinful truckload of fun. Julianne Moore’s titanic performance as the fading star facing encroaching middle age (and therefore irrelevance) is so good that it won her Cannes’ Best Actress award, and in one go ensures that she herself will never suffer her character’s fate." - The Playlist, 25 Best Films of 2015 We’ve Already Seen
