Argentina | 2014 | 100 Minutes | Pablo Fendrik

July 17 - 23, 2015

SIFF Cinema Uptown | Ends Thu July 23
This visually sumptuous adventure from Argentina stars Gael García Bernal as a mysterious man who emerges from the rainforest to rescue a woman (Alice Braga) who has been kidnapped by ruthless mercenaries bent on stealing her family's land.

When slash-and-burn land-grabbers lead brutal attack a poor tobacco-farming family, culminating in the kidnapping of the beautiful farmer's daughter Vânia, help arrives in the form of an enigmatic man bearing indigenous tattoos, who emerges from the jungle with animal-like abilities.

Working together for the first time since their collaboration in Fernando Murielle’s’ Blindness, award-winning actors Gael García Bernal and Alice Braga star in this fresh, contemporary, South American twist on the western genre.

"The spirit of Sergio Leone hovers above Argentine director Pablo Fendrik's spooky "machete Western" that trades open desert horizons for dense jungle backdrops." – Peter Debruge, Variety
