Director Noah Baumbach re-teams with star and co-writer Greta Gerwig (Frances Ha) for this madcap comedy about chasing dreams and schemes in the big city, as college freshman Tracy (Lola Kirke) discovers the allures of New York thanks to her adventurous new stepsister Lola (Gerwig).

Tracy was expecting her first year in New York to be filled with excitement and glamour, but freshman year at Barnard College has proven to be lonely, "like being at a party where you don’t know anybody, all the time." Then she meets her soon-to-be stepsister, Lola, a resident of Times Square who morphs careers and personalities – she is at once an interior designer, an aerobics instructor, a social-media maven, and an aspiring restaurateur – so fast that it is impossible not to get caught up in her whirlwind of enthusiastic activity.

Breezy yet heart-felt and filled with rapid-fire bon mots, Mistress America is a 21st century screwball farce in the style of Preston Sturges, with Gerwig displaying all the beatific ditziness of a modern day Carole Lombard, and Kirke (a rising star since her scene-stealing role in Gone Girl) as the perfect foil. They mesh with a cast of unforgettable supporting characters who all come together for an inspired over-the-top comedic finale that will quite literally leave you laughing on the way out of the theatre.
