Dalton Trumbo’s last feature film credit is this prison-break potboiler staring Steve McQueen as a convicted murderer sentenced to an island work camp where, despite brutal conditions, solitary confinement, and betrayal by his fellow inmates, he forms a desperate plan of escape.

Trumbo not only appears in a cameo as the prison camp commandant, but partly based the character of notorious forger Louis Dega (Dustin Hoffman) on himself.
