With live stream Q&A with Don Coscarelli and J.J. Abrams from Fantastic Fest
Celebrate the new nationwide holiday Arthouse Theatre Day with the 4K restored edition of director Don Coscarelli's 1979 horror masterpiece, an independently made and released horror classic that became a word-of-mouth phenomenon when originally released, and went on to spawn four sequels utilizing the same core team of actors and creators.
In a small Oregon town, 13-year-old Mike, older brother, Jody, and pal Reggie must confront a sinister undertaker, elude his flying chrome killing device, and escape a fate worse than death. Angus Scrimm’s “Tall Man” character and his airborne brain-drilling steel spheres have become genre icons worldwide, ushering in an ongoing story that continues to this day with the newest film in the series, Phantasm Ravager, slated for release on October 7th.
About the Remaster
When filmmaker JJ Abrams, a fan of the original, wanted to screen the film for his team at Bad Robot Productions he discovered that the only available prints of the film were terrible shape. Abrams invited Coscarelli to supervise a meticulous 4K digital remaster, including a brand-new 5.1 audio mix using the original stems – ensuring that Phantasm will be available to scare the hell out of generations to come with perfect picture and sound.
