USA | 2013 | 93 minutes | Lake Bell

January 27, 2014

Writer/director/star Lake Bell headlines one of the year's funniest comedies as a struggling vocal coach who goes head-to-head with the top voice actors in Los Angeles (including her own father), only to discover a web of dysfunction, sexism, unmitigated ego, and pride.

Unwilling to acknowledge his daughter's voice acting abilities, Sam (Fred Melamed) treats his daughter Carol (Bell) with condescension, dismissing her attempts to break into the voice acting trade as a humorous boondoggle. But when she gets a shot at the gig of a lifetime on an upcoming blockbuster movie trailer, her father and his voice acting cronies circle the wagons in hopes of keeping Carol out of their elite boys' club. Featuring a cast stocked with some of today's funniest perfomers, including Nick Offerman, Rob Corddry, Michaela Watkins, Ken Marino, Demetri Martin, and Tig Notaro.

"Like her character, Bell has made herself a contender in a male-dominated industry. And a damn funny one at that." - Anna Smith, Time Out

"To call Lake Bell a magnetic, intelligent, blithely screwball leading lady in the Carole Lombard tradition might be selling her short." - John Anderson, Variety
