The Grand Budapest Hotel
March 28 - May 14, 2014
The latest cinematic treat from director Wes Anderson, which opened the Berlin Film Festival to rave reviews, is a delightful and dapper comedy that follows the exploits of Gustave H. (Ralph Fiennes), the beloved concierge at the famous Grand Budapest Hotel, and lobby boy Zero Moustafa, his most trusted companion.
Gustave H. has a reputation for serving his elderly clients well, so it is little surprise when 84-year-old patron Madme D. bequeaths him a priceless Renaissance painting in her will. However, her sudden departure contains more than a whiff of foul play, and Gustave finds himself at odds with her sinister family, a dogged police inspector, and the inmates of the most dangerous prison in Europe. Gustave's faithful Lobby Boy, Zero, is instrumental in hatching schemes and planning escapes, and does so while also wooing the hotel's talented apprentice pastry chef.
Inspired by the writing of Stefan Zweig and set in the pre-war period of the fictional European mountain country of Zubrowska, The Grand Budapest Hotel shows a filmmaker at the top of his craft, with Anderson's most beloved flourishes–intricate set design, a cast of regulars, and even stop-motion animation–combing to create a classic screwball comedy and an unforgettable cinematic treat.
