The Invisible Woman
March 17, 2014
Director and star Ralph Fiennes present this true story of the most famous writer of his day, novelist Charles Dickens, and his secret 13-year-long affair with younger actress Nelly Ternan (Felicity Jones, Like Crazy).
Nelly's pragmatic mother (Kristin Scott Thomas) encourages her to welcome the interest of such a famous man, and Dickens - controlling and emotionally isolated within his success - makes Nelly his muse. As Nelly becomes the focus of Dickens' passion secrecy becomes the price and Nelly is forced into a life of invisibility. With an insightful screenplay is by Abi Morgan (Shame, The Iron Lady), this gorgeous period production catches the repression of the Victorian era and its fear of scandal.
