Based on the graphic novel by Fermin Solis, Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles picks up after the messy release of Buñuel's collaborative feature with Salvador Dali, L'Age d'Or. The public and critics have written him off and his relationship with Dali has been severed as a result. Gathering up what faith he still retains in his creative path, Buñuel heads to Las Hurdes to begin work on what eventually became the socially minded documentary, Land Without Bread.
Director/animator Salvador Simó blends his own visual flights of fancy with footage actually shot by Buñuel for Land Without Bread, giving viewers an opportunity to see the great lack of means that Buñuel witnessed in Las Hurdes directly through the great artist's eyes.
