After her mother's death, six-year-old Frida is sent to her uncle's family to live with them in the countryside. But Frida finds it hard to forget her mother and adapt to her new life.
Lonely and afraid, and struggling not to let it show, Frida (Laia Artigas in an impressive debut) moves to the country home of her Uncle Esteve, his wife Marga, and their three-year-old daughter Anna. Unsure of her place in a family she barely knows, Frida uneasily feels her way around this strange new place, acting out, telling lies and inflicting small cruelties on her new sister. Yet slowly she may rediscover what it is to be loved again. Summer 1993 is an unforgettable film of disarming authenticity, free of sentimentality and beautifully crafted in every way.
