The Romanian Film Festival, "One Eye Laughing, One Eye Crying: Tales from Afar"

The 4th Romanian Film Festival in Seattle invites you to reflect upon the role of cinema in society.

November 17 - 19, 2017

The 4th Romanian Film Festival in Seattle entitled "One Eye Laughing, One Eye Crying: Tales from Afar" invites you to reflect upon the role of cinema in society, and in relation to the other arts, such as music and literature. Through a variety of genres (documentary, comedy, drama), we will explore the ways in which Romania's most recent films enrich the old art of storytelling. Local and international special guests will present the movies at the Q& A sessions and interact with the audience at the festival opening gala.

The film festival will be preceded by an extraordinary fusion concert, "Songs from Afar" (November 10 @ Seattle Art Museum), featuring Transylvanian singer Gavril Tărmure and Lucian Ban's ELEVATION Quartet. Pianist Angela Drăghicescu and other local musicians will pay tribute to famed composer George Enescu with a new arrangement of the Romanian Rhapsody.

On November 16, New York-based film critic and professor Monica Filimon will sign copies of her new book on New Romanian Cinema and legendary director Cristi Puiu (University of Illinois Press 2017). The event will start at 6:30pm at Univ of WA Seattle Campus,The Ellison Center / Thomson Hall Room 317.
