A relatively straight-forward child abuse case involving the death of a supermodel’s child becomes a battleground of justice, power, and fame. When various contrasting elements of society come into conflict, how can justice prevail?
Self-absorbed lawyer Adrian Lam (Dayo Wong) decides to take work with an unseemly law firm defending high-dollar clients. His first case is the defense of Jolene Tsang (Louise Wong), a model accused of murdering her own daughter. Lam phones in the case, expecting Tsang will be acquitted. When she's instead sentenced to 17 years in prison, Lam jumps into action, stricken with guilt and sure of Tsang's innocence. He now finds himself not only fighting for his client, but for the integrity of the legal system against the influence of powerful elites. The directorial debut of screenwriter Jack Ng (SPL: Kill Zone), A Guilty Conscience quickly became one of the ten highest-grossing films of all time upon release in its native Hong Kong, and the only one of those ten to have been made outside Hollywood.
