LANGSTON Filmmaking Workshops for Black Youth: Spring Break Camp - CANCELED

Creative black youth of the greater Seattle-area (age 9-12) are encouraged to join us for a fast-paced collaboration with other young filmmakers to learn how to create short narrative films over the course of a week.

Spring Break Filmmaking Camp

April 13 - 17, 2020

Make several short films in just five days!

In small groups of 3-6, students (age 9-12) will learn the basics of working together as a movie production crew: writing scripts, directing actors, using accessible filmmaking technology, digitial editing, and more! At the end of the week, your short films will be "in the can" and we will celebrate with a Friends and Family Film Festival at Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute. Finished films will be able to be viewed online or downloaded to share with as many people as you like. This camp collaboration is open specifically to black youth.

*As a part of our 2020 Camp schedule, SIFF is offering extended care for certain camps. Extended care will be held onsite at the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute.

LANGSTON Filmmaking Workshops are powered by SIFF! All classes are taught by a professional film educator and a group of filmmaking mentors. Students will get a comprehensive experience creating several short films and learning new storytelling techniques.

All equipment is provided. Students just need to bring a morning snack, a sack lunch, and their creativity for each day of the camp. A light nutritious afternoon snack will be served.

SIFF collaborates with LANGSTON on this and other programs, supporting their mission to strengthen and advance our community through Black arts and culture.
LANGSTON was created in response to both the community and City's desire to support the historic mission of Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute. LANGSTON was conceived and designed by community members to serve as the hub for African American arts and culture in Seattle.
